Breckenridge Mountain Resort reports 8 inches of powder

Friday, January 27th, 2012

That’s right! Breckenridge Resort is reporting 8 inches of fresh white fluffy stuff for your riding enjoyment. Earlier in the week we wrote, there was a chance for 2-4 inches in the forecast and boy were we wrong! First thing this morning we ran outside and snapped a few photos for our blog, and then slid down the hill to the Riverwalk Center to see how the snow giants had fared. Upon first sight everyone/thing looked great, plus a fresh winter coat. Teams were busy brushing off Ullrs bounty and some were even being interviewed by both local and national news stations (Watch your favorite news channel you may see Breckenridge).

This morning we are strapping on the big Volkls (132 mm underfoot) and crushing powder pillow after powder pillow as the snow seems to be on automatic refill with snow still falling as we type. Look for a video edit in the near future featuring todays antics via our brand new GoPro Hero2 (Please, don’t let us lose this one).

Call the Pine Ridge office on your way up and speak to Katie in order secure what is left of our rapidly depleting inventory 1-888-840-4170.

Till next time….

Fifteen teams of snow sculptors from ten different countries have already begun carving what they hope to be the winning piece in Breckenridge’s annual Snow Sculpture Championships. The teams began the sculpting process Tuesday at 11 a.m. and 65 hours later on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. the teams must be finished with their work. The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday at 3:30 p.m., but curious visitors are encouraged to come and view the process and the final products anytime starting Jan. 24,

Breckenridge is expected to see snow accumulation in the neighborhood of 2 to 4 inches on Friday. Come Saturday, temps will range between 18 to 28 degrees and not a trace of that bone chilling wind we all love/expect. With last weekends snow firmly packed into corduroy and additional snow on the way, conditions are shaping up everyday. What are you waiting for? Pick up the phone and give us a call 1-888-840-4170

Pine Ridge is almost fully booked for this weekend, but we do have a few remaining units. Find our availability here (hit your refresh button for the most current results).

Town Trappings: Hearthstone review

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching (I’m already finding candy hearts and cards in City Market) it only seems fitting that our second Town Trappings will be for one of the most romantic restaurants in town: The Hearthstone.

My wife and I visited the Hearthstone on New Year’s Eve, after reading and hearing incredible reviews, and we were not disappointed. For 22 years, the historic, 125- year-old Kaiser House, has been a local’s favorite for hand cut steaks, game and fresh seafood. On New Year’s we not only enjoyed the picturesque Victorian-era home with beautiful views, but also the wonderful Colorado food.

When trying to choose an appetizer, we couldn’t decide (With prosciutto wrapped scallops, baked brie, and beef wellington as options, who could make a single decision!?). So, we each chose one: the crispy lobster and the duck confit ravioli. Although the fried lobster with wasabi aioli was marvelous, it was far outshined (in our opinions) by the ravioli with foie gras sauce.

We struggled as much with our entree selection as with the starters, eventually settling on the Blackberry Elk and Filet Mignon. Let me start by saying that this was not just a meal, it was an experience. The sweet marion blackberry demi-glaze on the succulent elk was “literally to die for”. As the filet mignon melted in my mouth, the balsalmic shallots and garlic spinach popped, creating a symphony of mellow and savory in my mouth. We finished the night with the crème brulle– and it was the crème brulee of crème brulees.

In closing, I would recommend the Hearthstone to all of our guests. It is perfect for special occasions: New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, an anniversary, birthday, or romantic night out. You can find the Hearthstone at 130 South Ridge Street, only 3 blocks away from Pine Ridge Condominiums. (I would recommend calling ahead for reservations, or visiting their website http://hearthstonerestaurant.biz )

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. Jan 20, 2011 – Today Breckenridge Ski Resort opened upper mountain lifts the T-Bar and 6 Chair, making local powder dreams come true just in time for this weekend. Thanks to a remarkable effort by the Breckenridge Ski Patrol, 250 new acres of advance terrain served by these lifts is now open. In addition to the recently opened E-Chair, Breck skiers and riders can enjoy this rapid-fire increase of terrain openings in recent days, as Mother Nature has supplied Breck with 14 inches of snow in the last 7 days.

National Weather Service forecasts up to 10 new inches to fall over the weekend at Breckenridge Ski Resort. A chance of snow continues into next week with a low pressure system moving through Colorado.

Town Trappings

Saturday, January 14th, 2012

Pine Ridger’s, welcome to our first installment of Town Trappings, where we give you a taste of some of our local flavor (because who knows Breckenridge better than a local?).

Let me introduce you to Mimi’s Fried Pies, a small, family owned restaurant on Main Street in Breckenridge. Everything on their menu is deliciously fresh and fried. My favorite item on the menu is the Fried Sloppy Joe, as messy as it is tasty. My wife, on the other hand, is a Southerner through and through. She can’t help herself when it comes to the chicken pot pie (reminds her of home). But, we find common ground by splitting the Banana’s Foster dessert pie.

In my humble opinion, this is the best location to get a quick meal or treat in Breckenridge. Obviously I’m not the only one, as Mimi’s Fried Pies is ranked #1 on TripAdvisor. So if you’re in the mood for a taste of Americana, head down to Mimi’s at 411 South Main Street (walking dis;tance from Pine Ridge Condos) or check out their website for yourself at www.mimisfriedpies.com
