Fifteen teams of snow sculptors from ten different countries have already begun carving what they hope to be the winning piece in Breckenridge’s annual Snow Sculpture Championships. The teams began the sculpting process Tuesday at 11 a.m. and 65 hours later on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. the teams must be finished with their work. The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday at 3:30 p.m., but curious visitors are encouraged to come and view the process and the final products anytime starting Jan. 24,

Breckenridge is expected to see snow accumulation in the neighborhood of 2 to 4 inches on Friday. Come Saturday, temps will range between 18 to 28 degrees and not a trace of that bone chilling wind we all love/expect. Monday, January 9^th- Ullr King and Queen Coronation (4:30-7:00pm)

Located in Main St. Station and Ullr’s Bar and Grill. The royal crowning of the 2012 King and Queen at 6:00 pm and music provided by DC the DJ. Bud Light beer specials available at Ullr’s Bar and Grill.

Tuesday, January 10^th – Ullympics (6:00-8:00pm)

The Ullympics features co-ed teams of four competing like crazy for fun and prizes in whacky events at the Riverwalk Center lawn. This is a perfect event for the light-hearted quasi-athlete who can easily laugh at themselves. Get ready for some action. Teams interested in signing up should email the Breckenridge Resort Chamber at hdewitt@gobreck.com. Participation is FREE.

Wednesday, January 11^th – The KSMT Dating Game (8:00 pm)

Breckenridge’s version of the Dating Game is hosted by the local radio station KSMT “The Mountain” at 8 p.m. at Cecelia’s. Adults over the age of 21 are welcome to attend. For information on how to apply to be a bachelor/bachelorette, call 970-453-2234 ext. 20 or www.ksmtradio.com

Thursday, January 12^th – Ullr Parade (4:30 pm)

The infamous and zany Ullr parade kicks-off on North Main Street and moseys south through the heart of Breckenridge. In its 49^th year, this is the ultimate in Ullr Fest fun. This is one you cannot miss! Participation is free, register your float or parade entry by emailing hdewitt@gobreck.com.

Thursday, January 12^th – Ullr Bonfire (5:00- 7:00 pm)

The bonfire is back in town. After the parade, enjoy the bonfire in the South Gondola lot.

Friday, January 13^th- Comedy Night (7:00 pm)

The hatha yoga classes taught by Breckenridge massage therapist and yoga instructor Erica Ragusa are designed to give us the proper levels of movement, breathing, and relaxation to contribute to our health and well-being.  The classes are one-hour long and start out in savasana, or corpse pose, to bring the participant into the present moment and leave behind the stresses of the day.  Then, there is instruction in pranayama, or breathing techniques to increase our vitality.  It is said that when we breathe deep, we live deeply; when we breathe shallow, we live shallow.  Deep breathing techniques are taught along with exercises to improve lung capacity.  Then, the part of the practice that is most associated with “yoga,” the asana practice, is started.  We move into a series of poses while keeping an awareness of our breath, trying to synchronize our movements with our breath.

The pace of the class is slow, giving us time to really feel the movements and deepen our stretches.  Participants have said that the class has allowed them the opportunity to really stretch, lengthen, and open their joints.  The class concludes with a guided relaxation to facilitate total calmness and comfort.  The savasana at the end is important, as it allows our bodies time to process the asanas and integrate them into our structure.  Erica teaches yoga Wednesdays at 5:45pm at Carter Park, Saturdays at 9:45pm at the Rec Center, and volunteers with the BOEC as a gentle yoga instructor and massage therapist for MS, ALS, and TBI groups.  Visit her Breckenridge Massage Therapy website for more information.
